The Book of Boba Fett recently crossed its inaugural season’s finish line as a dramatically different, Din-Djarin-dominated series from its debut form, but it did have time to conjure a comic book favorite from the recent realm of Star Wars comic series, colossal Wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan. Indeed, his live-action debut on Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine,” revealed one of the most intimidating onscreen presences in franchise history. Of course, this made Krrsantan one of the most anticipated action figure candidates. While the figure has been revealed (see images down below), and ready for preorder, some collectors are calling foul.

Krrsantan, who debuted in Marvel Comics’ Darth Vader #1 (2015), may have had run-ins with familiars like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo in the comics, but the Disney-canonical status of those encounters is likely questionable. However, his onscreen manifestation, starting with The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine,” as played under the furs by actor Carey Jones, saw the comic character come to life in the frightening form readers had imagined. The character’s soul-stabbing eyes, salt-and-pepper fur and unmitigated intensity was a rude awakening for the casual Star Wars fan who’d more likely assume that all Wookies were essentially shaggy, howling clones of Chewbacca. Yet, it seems that the character’s anticipated action figure, as revealed via CNET, shows a comic-based release for Hasbro’s Star Wars: The Black Series 6” deluxe line; a release that, perhaps due to budgetary constraints on new tooling, eschews that uniqueness to manifest as an odd-looking Chewbacca repaint.

Barring a new eye-scar-branding head sculpt and harness piece, Black Krrsantan’s rite of passage as a Star Wars character, a Hasbro action figure, simply resembles a slimmer Black Series Chewie figure slathered in black paint and even includes the same bowcaster weapon. It might be a passable facsimile for some, but it hardly represents the towering terror who yanked poor Boba Fett from a salubrious bacta tank slumber and gave a hell of a fight to the self-declared daimyo and his entire court. Moreover, Krrsantan eventually became an antihero ally on the series—one who even followed through with the old “Wookies pull people’s arms out of their sockets” tale—after Boba showed him mercy after the aforementioned skirmish. That makes him much more than just a side character.

While a more-accurate remake of Black Krrsantan with a unique sculpt for the 6″ scale seems like an inevitability on the far horizon, it seems that this figure will have to suffice for fans of the impatient variety. However, the wait, even for this one, will be a long one since preorders (at the MSRP of $27.99) with online retailers are just going up, revealing a loose release window for the spring of 2023!
